PETALING JAYA: The DAP Disciplinary Committee has accepted the explanation given by central executive committee member Ronnie Liu (pic) for an article criticising Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

"We have perused his explanation and the Disciplinary Committee has accepted his clarification," said committee chairman Chong Chieng Jen in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 12)

Chong said that the committee had earlier issued a show-cause letter to Liu for his article entitled "Mahathir: The Paper Tiger" on Oct 22 and had received a lengthy explanation on the matter from the Sungai Pelek assemblyman.

He added that all DAP members were advised to resort to internal channels to resolve their differences in the future and refrain from open criticism of DAP's coalition partners

In his article, Liu had claimed that the Malaysian public is unhappy with Dr Mahathir for failing to fulfil the 2018 General Election manifesto and added that the Prime Minister had "irked the governments of a number of countries".

While many Pakatan Harapan leaders have distanced themselves from Liu, some leaders like Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman as well as Bersatu's Dr Maszlee Malik, have called on DAP to discipline Liu.
