Show-cause letter issued to Ronnie Liu over Paper Tiger article, says Chong Chieng Jen

KUALA LUMPUR: A show-cause letter was issued to DAP central executive committee member Ronnie Liu over his opinion piece about the exclusion of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) from Pakatan Harapan, says Chong Chieng Jen.

The DAP disciplinary committee chairman said this when speaking to reporters at the Parliament lobby on Tuesday (Oct 29).

“The show-cause letter was already issued and we are waiting for his reply, ” he said.

Chong, however, refused to elaborate on the deadline given to Liu to reply to the show-cause letter.

“There is (a deadline) but I don’t want to discuss it, ” he said briefly.

Chong also said the party’s disciplinary committee will decide on the action that will be taken against Liu once the Sungai Pelek assemblyman replies to the show-cause letter.

In an opinion piece entitled “Mahathir: The Paper Tiger”, Liu had written that DAP, PKR, Amanah, Warisan and UPKO can band together and form a government without Bersatu.

“Bersatu may have 26 MPs now, but DAP, PKR, Amanah, Warisan and UPKO collectively have 113 seats in Parliament, enough to form a majority, ” he wrote.

Liu’s opinion piece had created ripples within the Pakatan coalition, where Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman had threatened that “Armada will freely attack DAP, including its top leadership”, if Liu fails to apologise within a week or be disciplined by DAP.

Chong then replied, labelling Syed Saddiq’s ultimatum as “most unwarranted” and should not be repeated.
