Bersatu Youth's ultimatum to Ronnie Liu 'unbecoming, immature', says DAP disciplinary committee

KUCHING: The one-week ultimatum issued by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth (Armada) to DAP to act against Ronnie Liu is "most unwarranted" and should not be repeated, says the DAP disciplinary committee.

Its chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the ultimatum was unbecoming, immature and counter-productive to a united Pakatan Harapan government.

"I wish to reiterate that DAP is a party of discipline and will not compromise on any act of indiscipline among our members.

"We have a high standard of discipline and internal procedures to enforce such discipline.

"While we are open to the public lodging a complaint against an act of indiscipline committed by any of our members, we wish to clearly state that no one should dictate the manner and time frame involved for us to discipline our members," he said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 24).

Chong was responding to the ultimatum by Bersatu Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman in slamming Liu for his critical remarks against Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday (Oct 23), Syed Saddiq said Armada would give Liu one week to apologise or be disciplined by DAP, failing which "Armada will freely attack DAP, including its top leadership".

Chong said the DAP disciplinary committee had received a complaint against Liu's opinion piece titled "Mahathir: The Paper Tiger" and had started the process to deal with the complaint.

As such, he said the committee was dismayed by Syed Saddiq's ultimatum.

"We have all worked hard to win the 14th General Election and form this government, not on our own, but made possible by the strong people of Malaysia.

"Let’s channel our energy and effort to deliver the reforms which we have promised to make Malaysia a better and stronger country, instead of being distracted by indiscipline and immaturity within the Pakatan Harapan coalition," he added.
