MELAKA: A play park and BMX cycling circuit is being planned at Krubong here with the mat lajak in mind.
State Communication, Multimedia, Youth Development and Sports Committee chairman Kerk Chee Yee said the new site would provide a platform for the mat lajak (modified bicycle racers) to gather for their activities “and keep them off the roads”.
“Mat lajak groups exist in the state but they are large.
“They can be controlled, ” he said after attending a cycling session organised by CIMB Foundation at Jalan Hang Tuah here yesterday.
Kerk said the aim of having the play park at a green lung site was to encourage people to keep fit and reduce obesity.
He said it was encouraging to see close to 1,000 people taking part in the event, with top cyclists from other states also lending a helping hand. The youngest cyclist was a six-year-old who was invited to the inaugural cycling event in Melaka, he added.
