Marine Police Southern Region Two acting commander Supt Noor Azman Jamal said the operation was held based on the information gathered by a Bukit Aman special task force.
Police stopped a lorry and a car at the highway at 3am.
They held two people – a 40-year-old lorry driver and a 38-year-old man.
He added that the 38-year-old suspect was believed to have acted as a tonto for the lorry driver.
“The younger man’s purpose is believed to be a lookout,” said Supt Noor Azman.
Police found 221 boxes containing 11,050 cartons of contraband cigarettes in the lorry.
“Police are investigating the source of these contraband cigarettes,” Supt Noor Azman said during a press conference at the Marine Police Training Facility yesterday.The case has been classified as smuggling.
