SPV 2030 launch draws crowd of 2,000

KUALA LUMPUR: The launch of Pakatan Harapan’s first economic policy – the Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV) 2030 – drew 2,000 participants consisting of academicians, civil servants and media practitioners.

The launch of the SPV 2030, the brainchild of Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, took place on Saturday (Oct 5) morning at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was the first to gave his speech, followed by Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Dr Mahathir.

Tthe crowd listened to the speeches attentively, while media practitioners jotting down notes diligently.

Security was tight as several plainclothes police officers were spotted in the vicinity of KLCC.

The mood was generally optimistic, as civil servants had expressed confidence in the SPV 2030.

Nik Muhammad Afifi Zamri, an assistant officer at the Department of Statistics, said the SPV 2030 was an important economic policy to improve technological advancements and income levels in the country for the coming years.

“I hope Malaysia will become a developed nation in the next 10 years. I hope we will also be able to be role models to other countries.”

PKR Batu division secretary Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said corruption and abuse of powers could be eliminated via the new economic policy, but stressed that the government must have sincere efforts to do so.

“The government must be sincere in its effort and not just sweet-talk about eliminating corruption.”

Property investment executive Nabila Azahari, who’s a delegate at the event, said her favourite part of the SPV 2030 was its goals to eliminate income disparity between different ethnicities in Malaysia.

Meanwhile, a ministry officer who only wants to be known as Ali, described SPV 2030 as a realistic economic policy which could address income disparities across different ethnic groups in Malaysia.

“I feel the SPV 2030 could achieve sustainable development goals for the country, where vulnerable groups will not be left behind, ” he added.

The launch of the SPV 2030 took place concurrently with the Malaysia International Beauty Show, the longest-running beauty show in South-East Asia, which will take place from Saturday (Oct 5) until Monday (Oct 7).

SPV 2030 is a 10-year plan beginning 2021 that aims to restructure the economy and bridging disparities between the wealthy and the impoverished.
