Mum suffers heart attack as son fights group of men

IPOH: A 44-year-old woman died due to a heart attack after witnessing a fight between her son and eight men outside her house in Jalan New Delhi, Buntong.

In the 8pm incident on Sunday the deceased M. Abiramy, who was watching the commotion, collapsed.

Her house was also razed in what was believed to be an act of arson by the same group of men.

She was rushed to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here for treatment but was confirmed dead 15 minutes later.

Ipoh Deputy OCPD Supt Mohamad Nordin Abdullah said the incident occurred as the victim, a mother of six, was heading towards a nearby temple but decided to head back home when she saw a group of men outside her house.

He said the men then started smashing a Honda Accord parked outside the house that belonged to one of Abiramy’s sons.

Supt Mohamad Nordin said when the family were at the hospital, the men returned to the home and set fire to the car that spread to the house.“Initial investigations revealed that there was a fight between Abiramy’s son and one of the suspects at a temple in Jalan Spooner at about 5pm that day, ” he said.

“The fight was over an accusation that the son was hiding cows belonging to one of the suspects.”

Abiramy’s eldest son N. Nineswaran, 29, claimed he had no idea as to who the assailants were and why they had carried out the act.“I will leave it to the police to investigate the matter, ” he said.

A neighbour who declined to be named said she saw about four men on two motorcycles smashing the car parked outside the house first.

“As the family members were at the hospital, after about an hour, the same people came back and set fire to the car before leaving, ” she said, adding that the deceased had been selling breakfast on the main road nearby for the past 10 years.

The Perak Fire and Rescue Department’s forensic unit’s investigation officer Norazlina Robak’aee said statements from witnesses were taken, and samples from the scene sent to a lab to be analysed.

Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam, who was at the site, said he would pay for the funeral expenses.
