Cut down on outdoor activities, people told

KOTA KINABALU: People in Sabah have been urged to be careful with outdoor activities due to the worsening haze situation, says a state minister.

Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Frankie Poon said that although there was no need to panic, it was better for the people to take precautionary measures.

“Take necessary measures, such as wearing a mask or cutting down on outdoor activities, ” he said.

He said those with health and respiratory issues should consider wearing face masks before going out.

For schools, Poon suggested that teachers monitor students and reduce outdoor activities.

“However, we will leave it to the Education Ministry to issue a statement or instructions if needed, ” he said.

As of 3pm yesterday, the Air Pollutant Index (API) in Tawau and Sandakan remained at an unhealthy level, while Kota Kinabalu is still at moderate, but close to reaching unhealthy level.
