Education Ministry: 138 schools in Selangor to close Tuesday (Sept 17)

PETALING JAYA: A total of 138 schools in Selangor will be closed on Tuesday (Sept 17) due to the ongoing haze situation.

In a statement on Monday (Sept 16) night, the Education Ministry said it had received a report that the closure would affect 179,843 students from 138 schools in the districts of Sepang, Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, Klang and Petaling Perdana.

"Any changes or latest information will be updated from time to time.

"School authorities are reminded to follow the standard operating procedures that has been set and to prioritise the health of the students and teachers at all times," the Ministry said in a statement.

Twenty-five schools in Putrajaya will also close on Tuesday due to the haze.

Air quality was at "very unhealthy" levels early today in Putrajaya, Johan Setia in Klang, Selangor, and Sri Aman, Samarahan and Kuching in Sarawak.

Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of between 0 and 50 is categorised as good, 51 to 100 (moderate), 101 to 200 (unhealthy), 201 to 300 (very unhealthy) and above 300 (hazardous).
