‘New posts to be contractual’

PUTRAJAYA: Instead of being permanent positions and eligible for pension, new public service appointments from next year onwards will be replaced by an improved contractual scheme, said Public Service director-general Datuk Seri Borhan Dolah. He said the move was decided at a special public service reform committee meeting last October that wanted the size of the service to be reduced in phases, and based on needs as well as reducing the burden of pensions, which is now reaching RM28bil.

Speaking to reporters after opening the conference on Human Resource Management in the Public Sector 2019 here yesterday, Borhan said the new contractual scheme which is being studied would offer better pay, welfare and protection. — Bernama
