SHAH ALAM: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah launched the Avisena Women's and Children's Specialist Hospital here on Thursday (Aug 22).

According to Avisena Group president and CEO Datuk Dr Omar Abd Hamid, the hospital project began about three-and-a-half years ago.

Dr Omar said the Avisena Group has another hospital, the Avisena Specialist Hospital, which was built 11 years ago and offers specialisations such as cardiology, heart surgery, neurology, neurosurgery, endocrinology, nephrology, and orthopaedic surgery.

Combined, the hospitals provide 251 beds, 115 specialists, and jobs to 1,000 staff members.

"We will add another 140 beds at the Avisena Specialist Hospital to attract medical tourists," Dr Omar said..

According to him, Marriot International Hotels had agreed to build a four-star hotel called Fairfield by Marriot beside the hospital and it is estimated to be completed in four years.

"We hope the development project will be completed in four years.

"We are confident that the project will promote medical tourism, and turn Shah Alam into a quality health services hub in Selangor and Malaysia," said Dr Omar.

For the long term, Avisena Group also plans to build more hospitals in the Klang Valley and other states, he said.
