Nursing home to cease operations temporarily

SEREMBAN: The owner of an old folks-cum-nursing home here has asked to temporarily cease operations after allegations that one of his staff had mistreated and manhandled residents went viral.

He vowed to clear the centre’s name.

Azrin Shala, 49, also hopes to resume operations once the police complete their investigations.

“I am going to fight this as I know my staff are innocent.

“In fact, some of the residents who have since been asked to return to their respective families told me to notify them when we re-open,” he said.

The 12 residents would only be allowed to return to the home once police investigations are completed.

The home was ordered to shut down temporarily after four former employees claimed the abuse allegations were true.

They also alleged that a female supervisor was solely responsible for the wrongdoings.

The four also claimed that they raised the matter with Azrin, but no action was taken.

The state Welfare Department said it was also investigating the Facebook claims.

The matter is being investigated for assault and using criminal force on a person.
