Cops nab former agent of water filter company for cheating

PASIR GUDANG: Police have arrested a former agent of a water filter company here on suspicion of being involved in several cheating cases.

Seri Alam OCPD Supt Ismail Dollah said the 29-year-old suspect was arrested on Thursday (April 25) at around 6pm following a public tip-off.

He added that the suspect was allegedly involved in 13 cheating cases in Seri Alam alone by posing as an active agent of the water filter company.

“Investigations show that the suspect entered his victims’ homes by claiming to be an agent who wanted to inspect, clean and change the water filter.

“After doing the checks, the suspect would tell his victims that the water filter needed to be changed, and the victim must pay between RM120 and RM400 for a new one,” he said in a statement Saturday (April 27).

Supt Ismail said upon receiving payment, the suspect would promise to return to instal the new filter but would not show up again.

He added that a victim checked with the water filter company and discovered that the suspect no longer worked as its agent.

He said the suspect was being remanded until Sunday (April 28) to assist with the investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
