TAWAU: More than 600 police officers will be mobilised to monitor security and prevent untoward incidents throughout the Sandakan by-election period.

Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Omar Mammah (pic) advised supporters to control their numbers when heading to the nomination centre on Saturday (April 27).

"This is to prevent arguments between supporters from different political parties," he said after a town hall discussion here Thursday (April 25).

Comm Omar warned those involved in the campaign and electoral process against provoking each other and raising seditious issues.

"Respect each other. Don't violate the law or risk being penalised. Don't destroy other parties' posters and abide by the rules," he added.

The Sandakan by-election was called after the sudden death of Sabah DAP chairman Datuk Stephen Wong Tien Fatt on March 28.
