The ‘End’ is here and fans just cannot wait for it

PETALING JAYA: Marvel fans are going to great lengths to be the first to watch Avengers: Endgame, which premieres in cinemas today.

Cinema operators recently announced they would be screening the film from as early as 7am on opening day and fans have lapped up the tickets.

To make sure he doesn’t miss the first screening of the film, Syahizan Amir Abd Wahab, 42, has booked a room at a hotel nearby for the night before.

“As I’m watching the film at mmCineplexes at Mutiara Damansara, I’ve booked a hotel within walking distance from the cinema.

“I live in Ampang and I figured it would be more convenient this way,” he said.

Syahizan, who works as a legal advisor, has been a fan of Marvel characters since he was a child and believes reading the comic books helped improve his command of English.

Mohd Faizal Muda, 35, is driving all the way from Kuantan, where he lives, to Petaling Jaya to catch the film at the crack of dawn.

“Although the film is shown in cinemas in Kuantan, I’ve decided to drive down at midnight to PJ because we have a group of cosplayers, called The Ultimate Cosplayers, watching the film together.

“I don’t mind the four-hour drive. It’s just more fun and festive this way,” he said.

Faizal, who will be donning his Iron Man costume for the 7am screening, has taken the day off from his work as an administrative officer at a hospital in Kuantan.

Arvind Yuvaraj, 32, who is a producer and presenter at a radio station, is also taking the day off to watch the film – not once but twice on opening day at 7.30am and again, at 4pm.

“Some movies are just movies. And some movies are pop culture events. And Endgame is definitely a pop culture event,” he said.

Endgame is the final chapter of the Infinity Saga, which comprises 22 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe revolving around the powerful Infinity Stones. The first movie, Iron Man, was released in 2008.

In a statement, Marvel Malaysia said Endgame had made RM10mil in the box office even before its premiere, making it the film with the highest advance ticket sales to date in Malaysia.

To thank Malaysian fans for their support, Marvel is lighting up the Kuala Lumpur skyline with the iconic Avengers symbols this Friday at 8pm and 10pm.

Malaysians can witness the light show from a 200m to 300m radius from KL Tower.

Look out for symbols of Marvel superheroes such as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and Hulk, which are made with the help of 300 light-emitting drones.

The drone light show is being brought to life by The Walt Disney Company through its advertising firm dentsu X Malaysia, to commemorate the culmination of an epic story told across 22 films over 11 years.
