New Johor MB: Sahruddin Jamal arrives at Istana Bukit Serene

JOHOR BARU: Bukit Kepong assemblyman Dr Sahruddin Jamal was seen entering the Istana Bukit Serene at 8.50am on Sunday (April 14).

Dr Sahruddin, who is also state Health, Environment and Agriculture Committee chairman, was seen inside an official vehicle JDT 11.

According to government officials, after Dr Sahruddin, 44, is sworn in at Istana Bukit Serene, he would proceed to the mentri besar’s office in Kota Iskandar for a handover ceremony with outgoing MB Datuk Osman Sapian.

Dr Sahruddin graduated with a medical degree from Hasanuddin University in Indonesia.

He beat Umno's Mohd Noor Taib and PAS' Mohamad Nur Iqbal Abd Razak by a slim majority to win the Bukit Kepong seat in the 14th General Election last year.

Yesterday, a government official confirmed the matter and said that Dr Sahruddin would be the new mentri besar.

The government official also said that at least two state executive councillors would be dropped from the line-up following Dr Sahruddin's appointment.

Presently, there are 10 state executive councillors comprising four from DAP, and two each from Pribumi, PKR and Amanah.

Pakatan Harapan has a total of 39 out of the 56 state assemblymen.

Johor state secretary Datuk Azmi Rohani in a brief statement said that the Johor Ruler had agreed to appoint a new mentri besar and the ceremony would take place at Balai Mengadap in Istana Bukit Serene today.

However, no names were mentioned in the statement.
