Daim due in Beijing on Friday (April 12) to wrap up ECRL issue

BEIJING: Tun Daim Zainuddin will be here to finalise the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project with China, ahead of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's visit to the country.

The Special Envoy to the Malaysian Prime Minister is expected to arrive in Beijing on Friday.

He is to wrap up the issue before Dr Mahathir's working trip to the 2nd Belt and Road Initiative Forum at the end of the month.

The RM66bil ECRL project, initiated by the Barisan Nasional government, was suspended last year by the Pakatan Harapan Government due to its high cost.

Since then, reviews and negotiations have been carried out with China to bring down the cost.
