Azmin submits motion against Najib for breaching embargo on Felda White Paper

KUALA LUMPUR: A motion has been filed against former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak (pic) for breaking a Parliament embargo on the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) White Paper.

Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali questioned why the former premier broke the embargo and posted parts of it on his Facebook page.

"This is why I have submitted a motion to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker this morning so stern action can be taken against him. This is an offence," said Azmin when wrapping up the debates on the White Paper in Parliament on Wednesday (April 10).

On Tuesday (April 9), Najib highlighted a purchase agreement Felda had signed to buy a 37% stake in Eagle High Plantations Tbk (EHP) from Indonesian businessman Tan Sri Peter Sondakh.

Najib had defended the share purchase in a Facebook post and slammed the Pakatan Harapan government of accusing him of cheating Felda to buy equity interest in EHP.

On Tuesday, Felda director-general Datuk Dr Othman Omar lodged a police report claiming that Najib had pushed it into investing US$505mil (RM2.07bil) in EHP.

In the report, he said the amount paid to acquire a 37% stake in the Indonesian company was 344% more than its actual value of US$114mil (RM466.9mil).
