Water supply in parts of Johor almost fully restored

JOHOR BARU: Water supply is almost fully restored for about one million users in parts of Johor Baru, Kulai and Kota Tinggi that were affected by ammonia pollution in Sungai Sayong.“Up until 10am (yesterday), consumers in the affected areas have begun getting treated water in stages except for some high and far-end distribution locations involving 5,067 accounts in parts of Johor Baru covering part of Taman Pelangi Indah, Desa Tebrau, Kempas Lurah, Kempas Denai, Kempas Permatang, Kempas Banjaran and Taman Kempas,” said Ranhill SAJ chief executive officer Datuk Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman yesterday.

The ammonia pollution started at Sungai Sayong late afternoon on April 3.

He also said that the Tai Hong water treatment plant (LRA) system involved part of Felda Ulu Tebrau, Taman Bukit Tiram, Taman Bukit Jaya and Taman Puteri Wangsa.

“These areas are expected to receive full water supply by midnight,” he said.

He also explained that the ammonia pollution of the river was beyond the control of Ranhill SAJ.

The company is involved in the process of water treatment and distribution of treated water to consumers. He said Ranhill SAJ would not treat raw water that could pose health risks to consumers.

“The ammonia pollution in Sungai Johor must be monitored closely. Stern action must be taken against the perpetrator to ensure no repeat of such a case,” said Ahmad Faizal.

He also advised users to be patient because the recovery of the water distribution system might take some time to stabilise.

He added that Ranhill SAJ had also mobilised 30 tankers to provide water supply to priority locations since the day of the incident, aside from informing users of the plant’s operation progress from time to time.

Consumers in any areas which are still without water supply should contact Ranhill SAJ at 1 800 88 7474 or email to customer.care@ranhill.com.my.
