Foreign vehicles with fines may be banned

POLICE are not ruling out the possibility of matching Singapore’s move to deny entry to all foreign vehicles with outstanding summonses, Utu­san Malaysia reported.

Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department di­­rec­­tor Deputy Comm Datuk Azis­man Alias told the newspaper that the police would discuss the matter with the Road Transport Depart­ment soon.

He was commenting on Singa­pore’s decision not to allow entry to all foreign vehicles with outstanding fines for traffic, par­king or vehicular emissions, which has already started at the Causeway and Second Link checkpoints.

“We will discuss with the Road Transport Department to take a similar measure and find an approach for foreign vehicles entering Malaysia,” he said.

Azar Eja, 35, a resident of the Sungai Peroh orang asli village, panicked after encountering the animals at 11am on Sunday while on the way to his farm.

After climbing a tree to hide, Azar managed to film the animals on his smartphone, and the videoclip he shot showed a herd of more than 10 elephants wandering about.

Johor Wildlife and National Parks Depart­ment director Salman Saa­ban said the elephants were be­­lieved to be from the Endau Rompin national park and Labis forest reserve, adding that the animals were found to be moving to and from the two locations.
