Ambulance driver: I was just doing my job


KLUANG: The ambulance driver who fell into a coma while helping to transport victims of the chemical pollution at Sungai Kim Kim to the hospital said it was his duty to discharge his responsibility.

At that time, Mohd Fariz Anuar, 43, said his only focus was to send the victims to the nearest clinic or hospital after receiving the emergency calls.

“On the first and second trips to the hospital, I did not feel anything, but during the third trip taking the Department of Environment) offi­cers near to Sungai Kim Kim, my body felt different.

“At that moment, I began to feel dizzy and there was a tightness in my chest, making it difficult for me to breathe,” he said at his home in Kampung Paya Dalam here yesterday.

The father of four thanked the Permaisuri of Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah who had visited him at the hospital.

Before being discharged and allowed to return home on Saturday, Mohd Fariz had been unconscious for four days and was placed in the intensive care unit.

He is on leave until March 24. — Bernama
