Dr M: PAS says will not support Umno for Semenyih by-election

This underlines the urgent need for Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad(pic) to raise money for government coffers, depleted by a fiscal deficit and a massive debt from a multi-bil dollar scandal, under the previous government, at state fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

KUALA LUMPUR: PAS had formally stated it will not support Umno in the Semenyih by-election, says Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“PAS has said they will not support Umno in the by-election.

“They confirmed this not only verbally, but in writing that was signed," he told reporters after launching the Democracy Fest 2019 here Saturday (Feb 16).

He was asked to comment on his 45-minute meeting with PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang at Yaysanan Al'Bukhary on Friday (Feb 15).

Dr Mahathir, who is Pakatan Harapan chairman, confirmed his meeting with Abdul Hadi, saying they discussed 'politics'.

On Friday, Abdul Hadi confirmed his meeting with Dr Mahathir but said he discussed administrative matters with the Prime Minister.
