PETALING JAYA: Former Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Aman is latest to defect to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia while another MP has quit the party, according to Malaysiakini.

According to the news portal, Bersatu secretary-general Marzuki Yahya confirmed that Radzi joined the party on Thursday (Dec 13).

"Yes, I have handed him his membership card yesterday (Dec 13)," he was quoted as saying on Friday.

Radzi was the former de facto law minister during Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's tenure as premier from 2004 to 2006, and a former home minister from 2006 to 2008.

He also served as a Kangar MP until the 13th general election in 2013, declining to run.

Malaysiakini also reported that Umno's Tanah Merah MP Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz has resigned from the party.

Ikmal Hisham, also the Tanah Merah division chief, announced his resignation and said the decision was made with his constituents' best interest at heart.

His departure means that Umno only has 43 seats in Parliament.
