KOTA KINABALU: The state's first private Radiotheraphy and Oncology Centre was launched at the KPJ Sabah Specialist Hospital (KPJ Sabah) on Saturday (Dec 8).
The ceremony was officiated by Sabah state secretary Datuk Seri Hashim Paijan, who was representing Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
Hashim said the opening of the centre would help alleviate the financial burdens of cancer patients in Sabah, who previously had to travel out of state to seek treatment.
He added that this can also boost Sabah's potential of becoming a well-known medical tourism hub in the region, he added.
"I am confident that with the launching of this centre, KPJ Sabah will provide high-quality service to counter the increasing number of cancer patients in the state.
"It will also pave the way for drawing in patients from Brunei, Indonesia, China and the Philippines to come to Sabah for treatment,
"This will ensure that Sabah will be known to the world as a medical tourism hub, and in effect, facilitate the state's economic growth," Hashim explained.
Also present at the ceremony were KPJ Healthcare Berhad president and managing director Datuk Amiruddin Abdul Satar, and KPJ Sabah medical director Prof Datuk Dr Ajaz Ahmad Nabijan.
