Doraemon baju Melayu wows social media followers

PETALING JAYA: You have not seen a Doraemon fan until you see this lad in his Baju Melayu.

Abann Dass was seen posing in a light blue Baju Melayu, with characters from manga (Japanese comics) and animation popular to Malaysians since the early 1990s as his groom attire.

The Baju Melayu features characters like Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo, and Goda (known as Giant in the Bahasa Malaysia-dubbed series screened in Malaysia).

He wrote, "Thank you to those who attended my wedding".

While the original post on his Facebook page only reached around 500 Likes, photographs of him stylishly donning the fancy Baju Melayu have gone viral on several local viral Facebook pages, garnering tens of thousands of Likes.

However, Abann did not indicate whom he was marrying. Two other women are featured in the photographs of him in his Doraemon get-up, but his relationship with them is not stated.

Abann, whose real name is Mohd Firdaus Mohd Ali, is a Kelantanese who manages a local cosmetic line in Kota Baru.

Mohd Firdaus told mStar that he was a big fan of Japanese animation when he was young.

He told mStar that the Baju Melayu was initially meant to be worn during the photography session, but five days before the wedding, he had informed his bride, who the webportal identified as Ana, that he wanted to wear the attire on the decorated dias (pelamin).

"She initially did not want me to wear it, as she was embarrassed about what others would say. But I convinced her, by saying 'kalau you sayangkan I, pakai kejap pun tak apa’ (if you love me, you wouldn't mind even if I wore this for awhile," he said, to which she agreed.

Mohd Firdaus noted that Ana had a bride attire to match his own Doraemon's Baju Melayu as well, but he decided to not to upload the pictures, as requested by Ana.

"I understand what she is going through. For now, it is just me wearing this Doraemon theme attire.

"Once she is ready, I will upload it," he said.
