PETALING JAYA: Former premier Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak (pic) says from the tabling of Budget 2019, it appears that all National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN) borrowers must repay their loans, and there is no exclusion.
He said the Pakatan Harapan government had previously promised that those who earned less than RM4,000 per month could delay repaying their loans.
"It appears that the promise to postpone repayment of loans for those earning less than RM4,000 did not materialise. The minimum wage is now RM1,100.
"This means no one is excluded," he said in a Facebook post on Friday (Nov 2).
Earlier on Friday, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng announced the option of PTPTN payment through deductions of between 2% and 15% from the borrower's salary, based on their monthly income rate.
He said this system will only be applicable to borrowers earning more than RM1,000 a month.
Additionally, a tax break will be given to companies that assist its staff to settle their loans by the year ending 2019, Lim said.
