Lokman Noor: Umno still has friends in high places

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno still has friends in Malaysian law enforcement bodies, said party supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam.

Lokman, who was accompanied by a small entourage, was speaking to reporters at the lobby of Menara KPJ on Wednesday (Oct 3).

The pro-Umno NGO Pemantau Malaysia Baru president was there to offer moral support to former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, who was summoned to the police's Commercial Crimes Investigation Department (CCID) here to assist with investigations.

"They have 32 charges. I heard they plan to charge him with at least 100.

"This is how they stop Najib from speaking up. At this moment, he is one of the most vocal in criticising Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad regarding the economic policies," said Lokman.

When asked about his sources, Lokman said he used to be the Finance Ministry's communications director.

"So we still have our friends there (in the Finance Ministry), we still have our friends in the MACC and police," Lokman said.

In addition, Lokman said he was not sure if Najib would be released today or not.

"Of course we knew that there are rumours, that this week, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor will go to MACC for further investigations, and she might be detained and brought to court to be charged," the Umno leader said.

Besides Najib, former deputy prime minister and Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was rumoured to be facing court charges as well, Lokman said.
