KUALA TERENGGANU: A woman charged with offering sexual services at a hotel here has been sentenced to six months in prison and six strokes of rotan by the Syariah High Court.
Judge Rosdi Harun meted out the sentence on Thursday.
He allowed the plaintiff to appeal her sentence within 14 days.
The 30-year-old divorcee had on Sunday (Sept 23) pleaded guilty to offering herself for prostitution.
According to the charges, an enforcement team from the Terengganu Religious Affairs Department (JHEAT) found the woman committing the offence in a hotel room at around 11.45pm on Sept 17.
She was charged under Section 25 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) (Terengganu) Enactment 2001, which carries a jail term of not more than three years, or a fine not exceeding RM5,000, or six whips of the rotan, or any combination of the punishments.
