SAUDI Arabia’s Collar of Badr Chain and France’s Knight Grand Cross of the National Order of the Legion of Honour are among the foreign honours conferred on Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Muhammad V.

The Collar of Badr Chain was conferred by King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud in February last year.

It is Saudi Arabia’s most prestigious insignia, bearing deep religious and political significance.

It was created to commemorate the 624AD Battle of Badr that saw Prophet Muhammad and his followers emerging victorious against the notorious pagans of Mecca despite being far outnumbered.

France honoured Sultan Muhammad V with its prestigious Knight Grand Cross of the National Order of the Legion of Honour.

French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte created the Legion of Honour two centuries ago as a general military and civil order of merit conferred on those who had sworn to uphold liberty and equality.

The Legion of Honour is the highest-ranking order and decoration in France. The then French President Francois Hollande conferred the award in March last year.

Sultan Muhammad V was also conferred Bahrain’s Member of Special Class of the Order of Sheikh Isa Ibn Salman Al Khalifa.

Sheikh Isa was the first Emir and 13th Hakim of Bahrain. The award was conferred by King Hamad Isa Al Khalifa in May last year.

During his visit here last year, King Hamad expressed a desire to strengthen bilateral ties with Malaysia.

Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei honoured Sultan Muhammad V with the Sultan Brunei Golden Jubilee Medal.

The medal was created to commemorate Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah’s 50-year reign.

Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Hamad Al Thani, also conferred His Majesty the Collar of the Order of Independence.

Shaikh Khalifa bin Hamad created the Collar of Independence in 1978 to honour foreign heads of state.
