JOHOR BARU: MCA’s sole representative in Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong will be going for the party’s top post in its elections this year.
The Ayer Hitam MP, who is also the party’s deputy president, said that he was thankful the support from divisions that passed a resolution showing their support for him to run for the presidency.
“I feel that I been called upon by the members to take charge as I am the sole MCA representative in Parliament and it is not an easy task to be an effective opposition,” he said.
Dr Wee, who is also Johor MCA chairman, said this when he officiated the Johor Baru MCA division assembly and election at Cathay restaurant in Stulang Laut here on Sunday (Aug 26).
He added that it was important for the party to prepare and groom new talents to become an effective opposition that gives constructive criticism or views to the Government.
“I am not saying that we are praying something bad will fall upon the Government but we are praying for a better Malaysia,” he said.
Dr Wee also added that MCA new leadership would be formed during the party’s election held on Nov 4 this year.
