SHAH ALAM: Students will wear black shoes to school next year, vows Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik (pic).

The Education Minister said this was one of the many requests he received from parents.

"Mothers especially – the fathers, not so much," he said on Thursday (July 19) during a question and answer session on education organised by the Karangkraf Media Group at its headquarters here.

School students currently wear white shoes and many parents complain that they soil easily.

The packed session was moderated by journalist Tan Sri Johan Jaaffar.

Dr Maszlee was also asked what he wished to achieve while helming the Education Ministry in the next five years.

He said that he wanted to also ensure that children carried lighter bags to school and to reduce the number of years before students start their tertiary education.
