It will be good if AGC can clarify, says jeweller

PETALING JAYA: Global Royalty Trading SAL – the jewellery firm that has filed a RM60mil suit against Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor – has no objection to the Government’s intervention in the lawsuit.

Its lawyers, Messrs David Gurupatham and Koay, have since served the legal papers on the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).

“We served the documents to the AGC today (yesterday) and we have no objections to the AGC intervening.

“As far as we’re concerned, it will be good for the AGC to clarify the Government’s position,” said Datuk David Gurupatham.

On Tuesday, Senior Federal Counsel S. Narkunavathy said the AGC would apply to become an intervener on the grounds that the jewellery mentioned in the court papers belonged to the Government and that the items were bought using stolen money.

David added that as far as his client is concerned, it only wanted to receive the cost of the 44 pieces of jewellery delivered to Rosmah or for the items to be returned.

“We have also written a letter to the police informing them that 44 items of the seized goods belong to our client.

“Our client is asking for their return as the items were not paid for and the ownership of the goods is with our client,” he said.

Global Royalty is suing Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, over the consignment of the “missing” jewellery.

In its statement of claim, the firm said the jewellery was delivered to Rosmah by hand on Feb 10.

It also claimed that she confirmed the receipt of the 44 items in a letter dated May 22. She also confirmed in writing on the same date that the said jewellery had been seized by the Malaysian authorities.

Global Royalty is seeking a declaration from the High Court that it is the lawful owner of the 44 items.

It is also seeking an order that the defendant would give the confirmed list of the seized items and a mandatory order that the jewellery be returned to the firm.

Alternatively, Global Royalty said if the items were not recovered in full or in part, Rosmah will be held liable for the full cost.
