KUALA LUMPUR: Senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah has denied claims that he is charging former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak RM2.4mil in legal fees.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Lokman Noor Adam had told the media that they had managed to raise sufficient funds to cover RM500,000 out of Najib's RM1mil bail, but not enough to pay the legal fees of RM2.4mil.
"Not true," Muhammad Shafee said in a text message on Monday.
Last week, Najib claimed trial to three counts of criminal breach of trust and another charge of abuse of power involving RM42mil linked to SRC International Sdn Bhd, a former subsidiary of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Bail was allowed for Najib and set at RM1mil in cash in two sureties.
Payment of the bail was allowed to be made in two instalments and Najib left the court complex after paying RM500,000 with the remainder payable today.
Najib also had to surrender both his passports.
