Jamal arrives at KLIA, to be whisked to court

SEPANG: Fugitive politician Datuk Seri Jamal Yunos has been deported to Malaysia from Indonesia after being on the run for more than a month.

The Sungai Besar Umno division chief was escorted by several personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police as he arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at about 3.15pm on Thursday.

The controversial figure managed to evade the waiting members of the press as he was escorted to an awaiting police vehicle, through an internal way, and not the main arrival entrance at the airport.

He will  be brought to the Ampang Court Complex where he will face several charges.

Jamal's lawyer Datuk Imran Tamrin said he feels his client is ready to "face the music "in terms of legal action.

"I visited him while he was in Indonesian police custody. I feel that he is ready to face all the charges against him.

"My client is facing about six offences which the police are investigating.

"He is also expected to face charges under the Immigration Act as well as being investigated by the MACC," Imran said when met at KLIA.

He said he was also informed that Jamal didn't use the legal way to enter Indonesia.

Asked whether Jamal had told him how he managed to make his way to Indonesia and where exactly he was hiding, Imran said he did not have the chance to ask such questions.

Imran is waiting for his client's arrival along with hordes of media practitioners.

Some media members have been stationed at the airport since 9am.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun had said that a team from Selangor CID had been sent to Indonesia to facilitate Jamal's deportation.

Malaysian police have been cooperating closely with their Indonesian counterpart in tracking down and nabbing Jamal.

Jamal was arrested while having a haircut in Jakarta on July 2.

Jamal is being investigated for at least six offences, including creating public nuisance by breaking bottles of alcohol to protest the Better Beer Festival at the Selangor state secretariat building on Oct 5 last year.

The police launched a manhunt for him after it was discovered that he was missing from his ward at Ampang Puteri Specialist Hospital on May 25.

An arrest warrant was issued for Jamal on June 1 for the offence of escaping or resisting arrest.
