Umno polls: Asyraf, Noraini and Zahida announced as new wings leaders

KUALA LUMPUR: It's official! The Umno Youth chief is Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, the Wanita chief is Datuk Dr Noraini Ahmad and the Puteri chief is Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan.

The official results of the Umno wings' elections was announced by Umno executive secretary Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh at Umno's headquarters at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC), 9pm on Sunday (June 24) after a delay of more than four hours.

Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, who is contesting for the president post, told Bernama on Sunday that he was happy that all the candidates he supported had won, based on unofficial results at the time.

"God willing, this will give new breath to the party," he said.

Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is also a candidate for the president post, congratulated the trio on Sunday in a Facebook post before the official results were announced.

He aligned himself with the new wings' chiefs by posting a poster of himself with the faces of Dr Asyraf, Dr Noraini and Zahida with the message: "Together, let us rise up in the name of Umno and continue to strengthen and align Umno with the hearts of Malaysians, especially the Malays".
