PETALING JAYA: PLUS Highway is all set for the balik kampung exodus, with at least two million vehicles expected on the roads tomorrow (June 14).
Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook said Wednesday (June 13) and Thursday will be peak travel periods, as PLUS was offering a 50% discount on toll rates for the two days.
"Travellers will notice that the discount is applicable immediately, unlike previous toll rebate systems that reimbursed the amount to Touch and Go cards after the travel period.
"At the toll gate exit, the amount reflected will already be discounted," he told reporters after joining a PLUS air traffic monitoring trip on Wednesday.
On the one-hour trip on a helicopter, Loke was flown over the PLUS highway northbound stretch up to Tapah, as well as the Jalan Duta toll exit.
The Minister also observed that during the Ops Bersepadu, which began on June 8, accident rates had gone down compared with the same period last year.
"On PLUS Highway alone, we have had only two fatal accidents so far, compared to 14 fatalities in the same period last year.
"I also urge heavy vehicles to abide by the ruling issued by the highway authorities and not access the highways on the two days before Hari Raya, unless an exemption has been given," he said.
