National Professors Council asks Govt not to disband them

KUALA LUMPUR: The National Professors Council (MPN) has asked the Government not to disband the body.

"We have proposed that the council continue," Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mohamed Mustafa Ishak (pic) told reporters after meeting the Council of Eminent Persons (CEP) at Ilham Towers on today (Thursday).

He said MPN will submit a written memorandum for the CEP "to consider".

"We requested the council (CEP) to allow us to continue with our programme through new approaches," added Dr Mohamed, without elaborating on the proposal.

He heads MPN's politics, security and international affairs section and is also the Vice Chancellor of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM).

On May 23, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad announced that several other Government agencies deemed as "political" or “non-essential” will be abolished or redeployed.

Besides the MPN, other agencies named were the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), Special Affairs Department (Jasa), the Residents’ Representatives Committee (JPP) and Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO).
