‘Descendants’ lodge report against Shahidan

KOTA BARU: A group of people claiming to be descendants of Paduka Raja Cik Siti Wan Kembang has lodged a police report against Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim for alleged treason.

Cik Siti Wan Kembang was a legendary queen believed to have ruled Kelantan in the 16th century.

The group also called on Shahidan to step down as Perlis Umno chief for allegedly undermining the powers vested in Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail.

Organisation of Descendants of Paduka Raja Cik Siti Wan Kembang Malaysia president Fadzillah Hussin said Shahidan should step down if he could not respect the Raja of Perlis’ decision to appoint someone else other than his brother Datuk Ismail Kassim as the Mentri Besar.

“Even if Shahidan disagrees with the appointment of another candidate, he should abide by and respect the decision that was made in the interests of the state,” Fadzillah said yesterday.

He had earlier lodged a report at the district police headquarters in Pengkalan Chepa, urging the authorities to take action against Shahidan for allegedly committing treason.

Umno assemblymen recently boycotted the swearing-in ceremony of Datuk Seri Azlan Man who was appointed the Mentri Besar for a second term.

Shahidan had failed in his bid to have his brother installed as the new Mentri Besar as the Palace preferred to re-appoint Azlan.

Barisan Nasional had won 10 out of 15 state seats in the general election on May 9 but ran into trouble trying to form the state government.

Fadzillah, who was accompanied by about 10 members of the organisation, said it had established a good relationship with the Raja of Perlis and felt compelled to defend the royal institution.

“We must defend the royal institution,” he said.

On Sunday, Panggas Kecil Umno branch chief Md Isa Seman had also called on Shahidan to step down.
