Najib's Taman Duta residence still a favourite 'tourist spot'

KUALA LUMPUR: The raids on Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's residence here might be over, but the mini "circus" at Jalan Langgak Duta here is not.

Located off Jalan Duta, the area is still a "tourist spot", with people still gathering there to take selfies with Najib's house which is located about 200m from where police have cordoned off the road leading to his house.

Jeanny Chung, 30, was given a "surprise" by her husband who told her that he was bringing her somewhere special all the way from Klang.

"I thought it was to go shopping or to eat. On the way he never once revealed where he was bringing me. I took a nap and only when I got up I realised the surprise," she said.

A lawyer who wanted to be known only as Edward, 30, was there to check the scene with his partner.

They had come from Puchong on this Sunday evening.

"We saw all the live videos, we just wanted to have a look at what was happening. It seems to be a new tourist spot," he said, adding that the whole episode taught him the importance of freedom.

Some even brought their families, with babies and children spotted taking pictures with the Langgak Duta sign board.

Cars could also be seen passing by and slowing down to take pictures.

Compared to the previous days, only a few members of the press are still waiting here.

Trader Zamri, 48, who is from Setiawangsa, said he just wanted to see what the fuss was all about.

"It's a high profile case, so I wanted to see what was happening, he said.

But the visitors have also been a bane to those living in the area, particularly residents of the Sri Duta 2 apartments.

The roads leading to the apartment has been blocked while people have been throwing rubbish everywhere.

A resident Yang Evans took it upon herself to bring a rubbish bin outside so that the place would look tidier.

"It has been a hassle to all of us living here," she said in reference to the endless stream of "tourists".
