Anwar: Hsien Loong meeting a catch-up between old friends

PUTRAJAYA: A meeting among old friends.

That was how PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim described his call on Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Anwar said that he knew Lee since his days as Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

"It was a pleasure to meet PM Lee again. It was a meeting between old friends who have not met for sometime.

" We did not only catch up on each other and our families but also discussed on current issues.

" We believe in strong ties between both countries and is hoping it will go beyond that," he said when met by reporters at the Marriott Putrajaya Hotel lobby on Saturday.

Deputy Prime Minister designate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail also described the meeting as good.

"We all agreed on the importance of a good bilateral relations between Malaysia and Singapore.

"We look forward to a stronger ties," she said.

The informal meeting lasted for one hour and was also attended by Lee's wife Ho Ching.

When asked if the issue of Kuala Lumpur - Singapore High Speed Rail - a joint development project initiated by the previous government - was raised, Anwar said this would be further discussed at Prime Ministerial level.

"Lee had said he looks forward to better collaboration. Details will be worked out," he said.
