GEORGE TOWN: There will only be three opposition assemblymen in the 40-seat Penang state assembly compared to 10 previously.
Two are from Barisan Nasional. They are Nor Hafizah Othman who won in Permatang Berangan and Muhamad Yusoff Mohd Noor who won in Sungai Dua.
The other is Mohd Yusni Mat Piah of PAS who won in Penaga.
Nor Hafizah and Mohd Yusni are new faces while Muhamad Yusoff is the incumbent Sungai Dua assemblyman.
DAP will have 19 assemblymen after winning all its seats, the same as previously while PKR will have 14 assemblymen, up from 10 previously.
For the first time, there will be two assemblymen each from Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Pribumi).
The two from Amanah are Muhamad Faiz Fadzil who defeated Penang PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff in the PAS stronghold of Permatang Pasir and Azrul Mahathir Aziz who defeated Barisan newcomer Rusli Hashim in Bayan Lepas.
For Pribumi, Zolkifly Md Lazim defeated incumbent Barisan assemblyman Datuk Shah Headan Ayoob Shah in Teluk Bahang while Khaliq Mehtab Mohd Ishaq defeated incumbent Barisan assemblyman Shariful Azhar Othman in Bertam.
