Pakatan endorses independent candidate Prabakaran to contest Batu seat

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan has endorsed 22-year-old independent candidate P. Prabakaran (pic) to stand in the Batu parliamentary seat under the PKR ticket.

This was announced by PKR vice-president Tian Chua, shortly after the High Court on Friday (May 4) dismissed his bid to reverse the Election Commission's (EC) decision to disqualify him from contesting the Batu parliamentary seat.

"Pakatan Harapan has made an agreement with an independent candidate and we will focus all our energy to ensure victory," he told reporters when met at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur.

The two-term Batu incumbent regarded Prabakaran as young and energetic, and said he will mentor him to take on the elections.

A pamphlet featuring Chua and Prabakaran has also been circulating on social media, telling voters to "cross the key for PKR".

The key represents Prabakaran's symbol as an independent candidate to stand in GE14. The law student will be the youngest candidate to contest in GE14.

Chua, whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, was disqualified by the Election Commission (EC) from being a candidate for the seat again on nomination day.

The reason given was a RM2,000 fine imposed on him by a High Court on March 2.
