SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Harapan's candidate for the Chempaka state seat Nik Omar Nik Abdul Aziz is confident that he is upholding the legacy of his late father.
Nik Omar, who spoke at a special hi-tea event in Section 8 here, said he is now with Pakatan Harapan's component party Parti Amanah Negara because he is sure that their approach in politics is similar to his late father Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat.
“I was told that I am going against the teachings of my father. But I am confident that I am carrying on my father’s legacy,” he said.
A member of the audience then asked if it was true that he did not receive his mother’s blessings.
To that, he laughed, saying no mother will hate their child.
Nik Omar said he is aware that he is being pressured, and even accused of abandoning Islam, but in truth, he was merely choosing a political team.
“They said if we do not follow PAS, then we are abandoning the religion.
"But if we have 10 million Muslims and a million are PAS followers, does it mean that the balance of nine million Muslims are going to hell?” he asked, to a thunderous applause.
Nik Omar's brother Nik Abduh is the PAS candidate for the Bachok parliamentary seat. Nik Abduh had expressed his disappointment with Nik Omar for going against their mother’s advice not to join a rival party of PAS.
