Azwan Ali, aka Diva AA, wants to be the 'hottest' Yang Berhormat.

PETALING JAYA: Flamboyant celebrity Azwan Ali reiterated his main objective of contesting in this election - to discourage people from voting for his brother Azmin Ali.

 

"I really aspire to be a great politician," said Azwan, who is contesting the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat as an independent candidate against his brother Datuk Seri Azmin Ali who is Selangor Mentri Besar.

 

If he wins, he hopes to be the "hottest" YB (Yang Berhormat) and will openly speak out on various issues, such as money politics, he told The Star during an interview on Tuesday (May 2).

 

Azwan, who also goes by the moniker Diva AA, who is making his political debut in GE14, said he has been practising his debates in front of the mirror.

 

"If I don't win, I will carry on serving the people and I will still walk with dignity," he said.

 

Azwan said if he loses, he will continue his foray into politics and may contest again in the next election.

 

"This is not just about my brother, I intend to continue my work in politics and serving the people," he said.

 

"I asked people not to vote for Azmin, but I never said not to vote for Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Tun Dr Mahathir, Lim Guan Eng or Lim Kit Siang," he added.

 

Azwan also brushed off accusations that he is funded by third parties and maintained that he is funding his campaign and the RM5,000 deposit from his own bank account.

 

It will be a five-cornered fight for the Bukit Antarabangsa state seat. The other candidates are Barisan's Salwa Yunos from Umno, PAS' Sharifah Hazlizah Syed Ariffin and Ahmad Kamarudin from Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM).
