SUBANG: Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) students have been advised to support Umno and avoid the Malay tsunami as their wellbeing has been protected, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The Umno president said Malays will put their trust in Umno because it is the only political party that can protect their future.

"It is important that no Malay tsunami will happen in GE14," he said during the "Saya anak Mara" gathering which was attended by almost 5,000 people at the Malaysian Institute of Aviation Technology (MIAT) UniKL here Sunday (April 15).

He said that the future of many Malays and bumiputras has changed drastically because of Mara's role.

Najib urged Mara students to continue to support Umno and not to listen to others who often find fault with the Government.

He said with the role of Umno, even the grandchildren of Mara graduates will benefit.

"As long as Umno is in power, Mara will continue to exist. That is because the fight for Mara was in line with my late father's struggle and I will continue his work," said Najib.

Mara was set up in 1966 to increase bumiputra participation in trade and industry as well as raise their socio-economic status in line with the New Economic Policy.

Mara was the brainchild of Najib’s father and the country’s second prime minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein.
