PONTIAN: Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan says he receives less fake news from his 992 WhatsApp groups after the Anti-Fake News Bill was passed earlier this month.

He said that he has received fewer messages after the Bill was passed in Parliament on April 2.

"I used to receive a lot of fake news, which were forwarded from one person to another. People circulated it to their friends and family," he said after attending a dialogue session with fishermen in Pontian on Thursday (April 12).

He urged people on WhatsApp and group administrators to be careful as they too can be found guilty even if they did not personally share the fake news.

"If you have something that is true, by all means share it across all platforms, be it WhatsApp, Facebook, Telegram, Twitter, blogs and so on," he said.

He later handed a contribution of RM10,000 to the Pontian Fishermen Association.

The Bill was gazetted on April 11. Those found guilty can be fined up to RM500,000 or jailed up to six years.
