Terengganu State Assembly officially dissolved on Monday

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu state assembly has been officially dissolved.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman announced this after receiving the consent of Terengganu ruler Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin to dissolve the 13th state assembly.

Ahmad Razif, who is state Barisan Nasional chairman, had an audience with the Sultan at Istana Syarqiyyah at 10am on Monday (April 9) morning.

“Terengganu Barisan has given their best to the people throughout the last five years. We now return the power to the people to choose the government they want," he said.

He added at a press conference that if given the mandate again, the peace and prosperity enjoyed in the state would continue in line with the New Terengganu Transformation plan.

Ahmad Razif then presented the sultan’s declaration of dissolution to State Speaker Datuk Zubir Embong.

Zubir then presented a notice of dissolution to state Election Commission chairman Nik Andy Suwardi Amri.

Terengganu's dissolution follows the dissolution of Parliament last Saturday (April 7), paving way for GE14 and the Terengganu state election to be held simultaneously.

In GE13, Barisan won 17 out of 32 seats to gain control of Terengganu by a simple majority.
