Bus attendant killed in Karak Highway accident

GOMBAK: A bus attendant was killed while 14 others were injured in an accident on the Karak Highway on Saturday.

District OCPD Asst Comm Ali Ahmad said the incident occurred at KM30.9 of the Karak Highway at around 3.50pm.

He said the express bus, which was going towards Kuala Lumpur from Genting Highlands, crashed into the back of a lorry.

"The impact caused substantial damage to the front of the bus, trapping the attendant. He succumbed to serious injuries at the scene," he said in a statement on Saturday.

It is learnt that at least 12 passengers were Singaporeans.

"Ten tourists, as well as the bus and lorry drivers suffered light injuries and were sent to the Selayang Hospital for treatment. Two more tourists were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment," said ACP Ali.

It is believed that the accident occurred after the bus failed to avoid the lorry as it was going downhill.

The deceased has been identified as Carles Lagan, 26.

"The cause of the accident is still being investigated," said ACP Ali.
