Ex-army man sentenced to 197 years in jail for misappropriation

MELAKA: An ex-army personnel was sentenced to a total of 197 years and six months' in jail for 79 counts of dishonest misappropriation of property.

Musa Md Dawi, 28, from the Specialised Military Combat Training centre in Sungai Udang was also sentenced to one stroke of the rotan for each of the offence.

However, Sessions Court judge Mohd Nasir Nordin ordered the sentence to run concurrently from the date of sentencing on Thursday (March 29).

The accused pleaded guilty to dishonestly submitting 53 payment vouchers of 79 people, amounting to RM50,238.10 by falsifying the names of non-existent recipients.

According to the facts of the case, Musa was said to have deposited RM46,281.10 from the amount to his bank accounts while another RM3,957 to the bank accounts of Anuar Bolhassan and Mohd Ramdan Mohd, between April and July 2016.

He was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a jail term of up to five years, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Irwan Shah Abdul Samat prosecuted.
