Mahfuz and Rosli announce decision to join Amanah

INDEPENDENT Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar has joined Parti Amanah Negara.

“I am proud to announce that I will be joining Amanah today,” he told reporters in Parliament yesterday.

Earlier, Mahfuz hosted a lunch for Pakatan Harapan MPs before announcing his future political plans.

He left PAS on Dec 31 last year, after 34 years with the party.

Present during the announcement was Amanah president Mo­hamad Sabu, who later accepted Mahfuz’s application form.

Last October, PAS said it had decided to drop the two-term MP as a candidate in GE14.

Asked if he would defend his seat in the coming polls, Mahfuz said it was up to Amanah to offer him a ticket to contest.

Earlier this year, Mahfuz was also embroiled in a controversy with the Pahang Palace after a video of him went viral, commenting on the ability of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad with Sultan of Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah.

Former Bank Negara deputy manager Dr Rosli Yaakop, 66, from Rembau, has also joined Amanah.

He has served as the deputy media chief of PAS’ mouthpiece Harakah and contested against former Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad for the Linggi state seat in 1999, but lost.
